Secretary of State cuts first turf
The then Secretary of State for the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills marked the start of Northampton College's new capital building projects in April when he cut the first turf.
The RT Hon John Denham MP took part in a celebratory event at the Booth Lane site, where existing buildings will be demolished and replaced with a 27,000 square metre modern design. Construction for a substantial extension at Lower Mounts in the Town Centre will also begin.
John Denham also met some of the College's apprentices and learners in the catering training kitchens during his visit. He said, "I'm very grateful to Sally Keeble for inviting me to Northampton College. I have been very impressed with the College and their exciting plans to transform the facilities here. The students I met during the visit talked confidentially about their courses and learning which is exactly what I look for in a college."
